Accuracy
We aim to publish accurate, clearly written and appropriately sourced information. Writers should verify material facts before publication and use primary sources wherever reasonably available.
Primary sources may include legislation, regulator publications, licence registers, company filings, financial reports, court documents and direct statements from the organisations or people involved. Information obtained from secondary sources should be attributed.
Fairness and right of reply
Reporting should distinguish established facts from allegations, estimates and editorial interpretation. When publishing material criticism or serious allegations, we will normally seek a response before publication when circumstances and deadlines allow.
Sources
Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, the source is in a position to know it and there is a justified reason to protect the source’s identity. An editor should know the source’s identity.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team. Advertisers, affiliates, sponsors and commercial partners do not receive the right to approve or alter independent editorial coverage. Sponsored or commercially produced material will be clearly labelled.
Conflicts of interest
Contributors must disclose financial, personal or professional interests that could reasonably be considered relevant to their work. Writers should not cover companies in which they hold a material financial interest without disclosure and editorial approval.
Data products
Tools, comparisons and data products should explain their principal criteria, sources and limitations. Paid placement must not be presented as an independent regulatory result or editorial assessment.
Corrections
We correct material errors transparently and as promptly as reasonably possible. Significant changes will normally be explained in a correction or update note. Minor spelling, grammar or formatting changes may be made without a separate notice when they do not alter the substance.
