Paul Klann leads the final 30 players in the CA$5,000 WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event, which has become the largest live poker tournament ever held in Canada.
The event attracted 2,844 entries at Playground, producing a CA$13,082,400 prize pool and surpassing its CA$10 million guarantee. The inaugural WSOP Super Circuit stop at the venue will conclude on September 10.
Klann will return for Day 5 with 11.3 million chips, equivalent to 113 big blinds. Guoyan Li is second with 8.1 million, followed by Nicholas Palma on 7.6 million. The remaining players are scheduled to play six more levels before the field is reduced further ahead of Thursday’s conclusion.
The winner will receive the WSOP Circuit ring and a CA$1.5 million top prize.
Negreanu and Mizrachi among Day 4 exits
Several prominent players failed to survive Day 4, including Poker Hall of Famers Daniel Negreanu and Michael Mizrachi. Rami Hammoud, who finished sixth in the 2026 WSOP Main Event, was also eliminated.
Chance Kornuth ended Negreanu’s run after correctly calling the river card he needed. Kornuth had a stronger day overall and enters Day 5 sixth in chips with 6.6 million.
Will Givens had built one of the largest stacks during the session, but a major confrontation with Klann changed his prospects. Givens attempted a large bluff against Klann’s nut flush and surrendered a substantial portion of his chips. He could not rebuild his stack and was eliminated before the end of play.
Klann seeks a second seven-figure result
Klann has $1,170,830 in recorded live tournament earnings, with most of that amount coming from his victory in the 2013 WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event. He defeated a 517-entry field there for $1,004,090.
His tournament appearances have been limited since that victory. Before this run, his most recent recorded cash came at Playground last year, when he min-cashed the CA$2,500 WSOP Circuit Montreal Main Event.
A victory on Thursday would earn Klann CA$1.5 million, exceeding his previous best cash after conversion to U.S. dollars.
Payouts and Day 5 chip counts
All 30 returning players have secured at least CA$51,000. The payout rises to CA$65,000 at the final 26, while the last 13 are guaranteed six-figure prizes. Reaching the nine-handed final table is worth at least CA$150,000, and seventh place pays CA$300,000.
The final four players will each receive at least CA$600,000, with the last three guaranteed CA$750,000. The runner-up will collect CA$1 million.
Kornuth has 6.6 million, Jack Salter is ninth with 5.7 million, Rayan Chamas has 4.5 million and Jack Hardcastle holds 3.3 million. Day 5 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday, September 9, with the event set to finish on Thursday, September 10.
